The Boy Who Cried Big Foot, By Scott Magoon

15801115The Boy Who Cried Big Foot, By Scott Magoon is a new take on the boy who cried wolf. This story, is more light and entertaining with less death. This story is narrated by Big Foot, who has found a new friend Ben. Ben is a clever boy who loved to tell tall tails. He claimed over and over that he saw big foot out by the woods, and even took measures to make others believe. Then one day Big Foot actually shows up and no one believed Ben.

This story keeps the same moral as the boy who cried wolf, to always tell the truth. The Boy Who Cried Big Foot, is a story that clearly maps out the consequences of telling tall tales over and over again. You need to tell the truth so that when it really matters, those around you will believe what you are saying.

I found this book to be a fun, light-hearted read with wonderful illustrations. At points in the story even some of the dialogue also became part of the illustrations. My son found this book to be entertaining though not one of his favorites. The Boy Who Cried Wolf is a great one for a clear moral and an entertaining read, but as it is a retelling and doesn’t have much more to offer it wasn’t one of my favorites. It is one of the lighter reads we have this week and for that I liked it, especially at bedtime.

4/5 Stars
