Bugs in my Hair! By David Shannon

It’s an inevitability for everyone who goes to school that lice will break out at one time or another. It can be a very scary and embarrassing experience though for the kids experiencing it for the first time. There are literally Bugs in My Hair!

This book is absolutely fantastic! It goes through the emotions the children will probably be feeling: embarrassed, shame, fear and addresses all of those emotions. Turns out there is no need to be embarrassed because all the other kids have lice as well. There are treatments and though you may be scared it isn’t permanent. My favorite thing about this book though was the educational side. It shows you was the eggs look like as well as what they are really called. This book is complete for any child going through a lice epidemic in their school for the first time.

The entire book has a cool, comic book feel to it.. The lice in the story are well illustrated, spot on how they look but less gross, and scary. It gives the kids something to relate the name to. And the boy and his mom in the story are illustrated wonderfully and some of the images are comical given the seriousness of the situation.

If you and your child are going through lice for the first time, this book is a perfect story and a must have to help your child understand all about this new thing. I would absolutely recommend this to any parent out there, especially those who aren’t sure how to explain lice to their kids. A very fun read.

5/5 Stars
